Method
Prepare the Apples:
- Peel, core, and dice the Gala apples into small cubes.
- Toss the apples in a medium bowl with lemon juice, cinnamon, white sugar, and maple syrup. Mix well using a flexible spatula to coat the apples evenly.
Prepare the Ramekins:
- Grease mini Dutch ovens or ramekins with softened butter.
- Divide the prepared apple mixture evenly into the ramekins, ensuring they are filled to the top.
Air Fry the Apples:
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the ramekins into the air fryer basket and cook for about 20 minutes, until the apples are tender and golden brown.
Prepare the Oat Topping:
- While the apples are cooking, make the oat topping. In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter.
- Sift in ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and ground nutmeg for added warmth. Stir to combine.
- Add chopped pecans (if using) and maple syrup. Mix until everything is well combined.
Add the Topping:
- After the initial 20 minutes of cooking, remove the ramekins from the air fryer.
- Generously sprinkle the oatmeal topping over the apples in each ramekin.
- Cover the ramekins with foil and return them to the air fryer.
- Cook for an additional 5 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 5 minutes until the topping is crispy and golden.
Serve:
- Once done, remove the ramekins from the air fryer and place them on a cooling rack.
- Serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, or a dollop of Greek yogurt for added indulgence.
